Book Review: A Melody for James by Hallee Bridgeman

Melody_James_coverAlready in Amazon’s Top 100 Best Sellers list!

Melody and James lead separate lives of discord until an unexpected meeting brings them to a sinister realization. Unbeknownst to them, dark forces have directed their lives from the shadows, orchestrating movements that keep them in disharmony. Fire, loss, and bloodshed can’t shake their faith in God to see them through as they face a percussive climax that will leave lives forever changed.

Having read and loved Hallee Bridgeman’s Jewel Anthology, I was excited but slightly hesitant when I heard she was soon to publish a Christian Suspense novel.  In my experience, authors can write one genre or the other well, not both.  I was thrilled to discover that I was wrong.  Hallee Bridgeman does not disappoint us with her latest book, A Melody for James.

Melody and James meet under less than desirable circumstances but feel an instant connection. Tragedy strikes and a series of head-shaking circumstances keep them apart for the next 4 years. When they finally reconnect, they find themselves drawn into a deeper web of intrigue and terror than they ever could have imagined, renewing their faith in God along the way.

A Melody for James is Book 1 in Hallee’s new Song of Suspense series. I expect this series will be a huge success and look forward to reading the rest of her future books.  Visit Hallee’s website for a sneak peek into the novel, and to see what inspired her to write Melody.

Linked book titles are Amazon affiliate links. If you buy the book, I’ll receive a small token of the sale.  If you’d like to help me out but prefer a different version than the one linked, let me know. I’d be more than happy to create a custom link for you to use.

I enjoy reading Harry Potter fan fiction stories, especially novel-length stories.  Those included here are works greater than 60,000 words to date, or are sequels of works greater than 60K words and thus anticipated to be of similar length once complete.  Individual stories link to the story page, sequels link only to the author, since I recommend starting from the beginning of a series. If you are a hard-core HP fan wanting to delve into fan fiction, there are plenty more I can strongly recommend as excellent reading. 😉

52 books in 52 weeks – BW10

Read 52 books in 52 weeks 2013

This year, I started a challenge to read 52 books in 52 weeks.  The goal of the challenge is to read at least one book each week for 52 weeks.

Update

Over the last few weeks I’ve continued to read fan-fics in the little bits of time that I’ve had free.  I should be reading something more substantial, but I haven’t.  I won’t make excuses, because there really aren’t any. While I’ve read part of a YA novel, I haven’t finished it yet and haven’t read any other real books beyond my bible and my small group book study.

I *did* finally finish Dragonfly in Amber just last night, and have the next 3 audiobooks (Voyager, Drums of Autumn, and The Fiery Cross) loaded on my iPod for the coming months.  At more than 320 hours total for just these 3 books, I don’t think I’m going to be able to finish all 7 books before #8 is released in the fall.  :\

I just realized that I have 11 works completed and we’re just wrapping up week 10.  At least I’m still slightly ahead.  But now I need to focus more on real books in order to build up my book buffer again.

2013 Finished books

52 books in 52 weeks – BW7

Read 52 books in 52 weeks 2013

This year, I started a challenge to read 52 books in 52 weeks.  The goal of the challenge is to read at least one book each week for 52 weeks.

Update

I admit it, I’ve slacked off.  Real life has been busy and chaotic, physically exhausting and mentally draining.  It’s all I can do to keep up with my daily bible reading and bible study book at the moment and even that’s sketchy.

In the short bursts of time I’ve had, I’ve read lots of fan-fic fluff. In other words, stories that don’t really matter whether I catch it all or even remember what I read later.  I’ve certainly not read anything meaty or even school related for that matter. I’ve tried, but after reading the same page several times without comprehending what I’ve read, it’s time to put the book away and move on to something else.  I’m hoping to get caught up on a big chunk of the ‘real stuff’ this weekend but we’ll see how it goes.

I have continued to listen to my audio book (Dragonfly in Amber) on the drive home each evening, and most anytime I’m in the car alone for more than a 5-10 minute trip.  I’m up to disc 14/33 with just under 23 hours left in the book.  I have to find more time to listen to the books or I’m never going to get through all 7 novels before Written In My Heart’s Own Blood is released this fall.

2013 Finished books
